Sharper MCP tools

MCP paper search matches every word in any order and ranks the most-cited papers first, and the graph and project tools now agree with the website.

AI assistants connected to PaperVantage through MCP (see Connect) get a few improvements.

  • Paper search matches every word, in any order. A search like robots unseen finds papers that mention both words anywhere in the title, authors or abstract, instead of only papers containing that exact phrase. Results come back most-cited first, and MCP search now uses the same search as the website.
  • Graph and project tools agree with the website. Asking for the citation graph of a paper that doesn't exist now says so instead of returning an empty graph, the graph tool returns the same papers each time, and project paper counts match what the website shows.
  • Connecting a client is more robust. If you decline access while connecting an MCP client, the client is told so properly instead of you landing on an error page, and sign-in problems on our side are reported to the client as a clear error.
