Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of PaperVantage, operated by Daniel Furness ("PaperVantage", "we"). By creating an account or using the service you agree to them.

The service

PaperVantage helps you understand scientific papers: summaries, question answering, explanations and a citation graph, plus an MCP server so AI tools can use your paper library. Explanations are generated by AI models and can be wrong. Check anything important against the original paper.

Your account and content

You are responsible for activity on your account and for keeping your sign-in secure.
You keep ownership of anything you upload. You give us permission to process it solely to run the service for you (parsing, indexing, generating summaries and answers).
Only upload material you have the right to use. Do not upload content that is unlawful or that infringes someone else's rights.

Plans and payment

The free plan includes a monthly allowance of MCP tool calls (shown on your account page). The built-in AI assistant is not part of the free plan. Everything else is free.
PaperVantage Unlimited is a monthly subscription (currently £4.99 per month) that removes the MCP tool call allowance and includes the built-in AI assistant, within a monthly AI usage allowance (or on your own model key, if you add one). Payments are processed by Stripe; we never see or store your card number.
Subscriptions renew automatically each month until cancelled. You can cancel at any time from the billing portal on your account page; access continues until the end of the period you have paid for. We do not generally give refunds for partial periods, but nothing here limits any rights you have under consumer law.
We may change prices or plan limits with reasonable advance notice; changes do not apply to a period you have already paid for.

Acceptable use

Do not abuse the service: no scraping at scale, no attempts to bypass usage limits or security, no reselling access, and no use that degrades the service for others. We may suspend accounts that do.

Availability and liability

The service is provided "as is". We aim to keep it running but do not guarantee it will be uninterrupted or error-free. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law.

Ending your account

You can stop using PaperVantage at any time and may ask us to delete your account and data. We may suspend or end accounts that breach these terms.
